Slowness and Memory I; Mixed Media on Canvas, 48 x 48 inches
If you could paint your thoughts, what colors would they bring? If you could see memory, see how it moves, and put it on a canvas, what would it look like? Tosha Albor’s latest exhibit, entitled A-Softly Pounding, undertakes this project of capturing the colors of the pysche, and goes beyond it by representing the nuances of nature and its splendor. The collection draws from the natural – its rhythms and its grace, and the visual harmony born from it. The collection and the artist have been very well received both within the art community and from members outside of it.
The Seasons; Mixed Media on Paper, 9 x 12 inches
A-Softly Pounding is a collection of abstract paintings of various sizes, bearing lively shots of color and dynamic lines. Perhaps the works’ ease on the eyes and their uplifting effect on the viewer’s soul has garnered the collection such warm reception from art collectors, fellow artists, art lovers, and spectators. Without losing any of its depth, the collection makes itself visually accessible and enjoyable. The paintings reflect something relevant to each person that comes across them – the cadence of living, elements of the organic. The collection has added a new dimension to these familiar concepts, looking at them through a different perspective.
My Feather Touch, Mixed Media on Paper, 21.5 x 15 inches;
Tosha Albor is based in San Francisco and has seen much of the world. Memories of her recent visits to the Amazon and to Hawaii have come to life through the palette of the collection, as well as the focus of many of the pieces. Wings and feathers, foliage, and sun and skies are all featured in the paintings, but in ways in which they have never been seen before. Her travels have greatly influenced her work, allowing them to contribute something completely unique to the existing treasure trove of Philippine art. She says of the collection: “I feel this show in particular has brought to light some of the aesthetic influences of San Francisco to my work--so, in a sense, I am bringing home some elements of the San Francisco art scene mixed with my own unique approach---which at its very core is a kind of abstract expressionism that I took from my father, who is an established Filipino abstract artist.”

Crop Circles, Mixed Media on Paper, 20 x 15 inches
Tosha, daughter of premier abstractionist Gus Albor, has laid her own distinct imprint on the Philippine art scene, and it is a colorful one. With paintings on canvas she was able to engage all the senses of the viewer, calling attention to what is usually taken for granted, but is beautiful all the same.
A-Softly Pounding is exhibited at Art Informal, 277 Connecticut St., Greenhills East, San Juan, from November 10-27, 2011.
